Reiki is a gentle, light touch, "laying on hands" Japanese technique. It is based on the philosophy that limitless, universal life force energy is the source of all Life. This life force energy, (also known as Chi or Qi), flows within us, creates our bodies, and determines our state of health. Since Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not based on any faith, religion, belief, or suggestion. There is nothing an individual needs to believe in order to receive, learn, or use Reiki.
A Reiki practitioner accesses this energy, acting as a channel, allowing it to flow to the recipient's body, through the practitioner's hands. Reiki treatments can be used for general well-being programs or to assist with stress reduction, promoting deep relaxation, and to support the body, which may facilitate the body's own innate healing abilities on the mental, emotional, and physical levels. In addition, Reiki works well in conjunction with all medical or therapeutic techniques as a complementary therapy. It is used in many settings, including hospitals and hospices, as well as in private practice and in self care.
There will be an initial consultation before the session commences on the first visit. When receiving a Reiki treatment, the client will remain fully clothed, while lying on a massage table or seated in a chair. Practitioners seek to provide a relaxing environment for their clients, which may consist of peaceful background music or complete silence during the session, and softened lighting in the room.
